Recent Building and Refurbishment

From a humble beginning, when residents lived in impoverished and often unhygienic conditions, the staff at Neve Menashe have worked tirelessly to improve standards of care.

Thanks to government funding, generous private donations through Friends of Neve Menashe and the Parents Association, new buildings have recently been added providing much-needed care facilities.

In 1996, the Minister of Social Welfare opened a new two-storey building, the top floor of which is a purpose-built unit for 60 bedridden or wheelchair bound residents.

The lower storey houses a medical and dental clinic that serves both Neve Menashe and the handicapped of the surrounding area.

Government funding in 1999 provided another two-storey building containing a sick bay and six new apartments for 60 less severely handicapped residents.

More recently, with 80% government and National Insurance Institute funding and a 20% private donation, a new building was opened, providing facilities for occupational therapy and light industry, a new kitchen, storerooms and staff dining room.

An appeal on local radiio by the Friends of Neve Menashe helped raise funds for a new physiotherapy unit. An old Nissen hut was refurbished to accomodate the new unit.

The Friends of Neve Menashe:

The Friends of Neve Menashe was founded by a small group of concerned people who care about improving the welfare and living conditions of the mentally handicapped. By helping the residents, the Friends of Neve Menashe also offers support and encouragement to the staff in their wonderful work with a much-neglected part of our community.

Our Doors are Always Open:

Take time to visit us in Israel. If you could see a caregiver talking tenderly, naturally, and patiently with an adult whose mental skills are those of a five-year old, you would understand the importance of even the smallest contribution.

Make a donation, become a friend, earmark a sum for a specific project. You will be reaching out to men and women whom fate has left defenseless.

Your assistance can make a huge difference.
